One word: GO!

I agree with all of the above! GO GIRL! I have plans to take my whole family (including 2yr old twins) next spring to visit Mickey Mouse over Mardi Gras vacation week! We hope it will be less crowded then when everyone else in the nation is still in school. It was one of the dreams that Bear & I had so I am going to fulfill that dream.
Another big dream we had was to go to Hawaii so next Dec I have plans to take my Mom with me & go to Hawaii on what would have been my 35th Anniversary. I have taken several vacations since Bear died & I have bittersweet memories of all of them, There were some tears and some wonderful memories. That is one of the things that Bear insisted on when he knew he was dying- he wanted me to go on living & fulfill the dreams we had for our future. SO we do & often I hear my 10 yr old grandson say "Poppi would love this!" and he is right...

I think you should go, it will be hard at times, but I think in the end, you will be glad you went and spent time with your family and especially your grandson. I hope you have a wonderful trip. I am taking all my kids to Disney World in July. It was a family trip we had planned to do with their Dad, but we will do it together and we will enjoy it. Hugs to you today, Dawn

There are no rules etched in stone that we must follow as widows/widowers. You must do what you must do...when you can do it. It's all up to you.

It is never to soon!!! If this has taught us anything it is not to put anything off. I always feel if I might be sad there it won't be any worse than being sad home alone. Hugs!!!

Go. I took the kids to Disneyland. Although I had terrible bouts of sadness my kids really needed this vacation. Besides whether you go on vacation or not you will still have the same grieving feelings and missing him no matter where you are. You might as well go and find joy seeing your grandson having a great time. Edie

What do you want to do? I feel like your question is more what is appropriate? Are you feeling a little guilty because it was a special place for both of you? It will probably be very emotional, but in a good, releasing way.
Maybe you can do something special in John's honor while you are all there. Something he especially loved, or everyone buy a balloon and release them...something obviously for him, then you could move on and enjoy the rest of the time with the family. I love doing things with my kids that my husband loved and talking about him often during it. Making him a part of it. Sometimes people are so careful to not talk about the person we are missing so much. I think it is so much healthier to talk, laugh, cry all at the same time...especially with family. It gets a little old with friends. I hope you choose to go...but only if you really want to. Best to you pattigrace
