I moved to a different state. For some reason- probably to save money- I impetuously decided to switch insurance companies (Allstate and StateFarm) and consolidate to one (AAA) who would handle everything. I got the bundle discount: car, home, earthquake and Umbrella.
I was quite proud of myself for this consolidation...but then I found out that unless I change my license plates to my new state, I can not be covered for an Umbrella policy. This was after AAA cancelled my other Umbrella policy, so now I dont have one, unless Allstate can reverse the cancellation.
I dont want to change my license plates until after Probate, which has now been put back until Dec. 1, by stepdaughters attorney. It is a stall tactic to make me want to settle...another story.
But the main lesson learned is to not make drastic changes within the first year. I temporally forgot this...hope it wont bite me in the butt. Stupid widow mistake.
Also worrying about investments--dont want to make mistakes, but dont know who to turn to. I have financial advisors, but feel they all want whats best for themselves.

As for your investments. If you dont feel your advisors are working for you I would look around. I was very fortunate to find a accountant that helped me with the estate taxes and then became a trusted advisor after my wife past.
Over time I would encourage you to start to build a trusted network of advisors ie; mechanic, banker, lawyer, doctor, counsellor etc. Dont settle for the first one you meet. If you find someone you can trust they are invaluable, especially if you dont have alot of outside support. All the best to you. Gerry
For example, I got refund checks even for only less than $20.00. The bank would not allow me to cash it because it was under my husband's name. I had to deposit it to our join account in order for me to get the money. It was fortunate that I still kept our joint account open but with minimum amount.
But still blame close call to stupid Widows Brain. Time for me to find a grief counselor I think...
