My partner and I accumulated 218 DVDs over our time together, so I watched a couple of movies. That helped get my mind off of his loss and let me pass some time without crying or feeling sad. It worked for me. Maybe it could work for you, too.

During the first year, my sons and I watched a lot of DVDs. I couldn't cope with the horrors of network tv, the hews, etc., and forget about Hallmark specials, romantic comedies, etc. So, we watched old Marx Brothers, Three Stooges, every World War II movie ever made (especially submarine movies - no romance!), a significant number of action movies, old Westerns like Gunsmoke, and I introduced them to the origional Star Trek series (which they loved). Then we hit the library for documentaries on anything they were remotely interested in - Vikings, WW2, Ancient Egypt, you-name-it. It helped!

Star Trek (all of them), and the Food Network were my go to things to watch. And stupidly funny stuff I never would have watched before (ie: Witless Protection). And any Mystery Science Theater. I think it's good to get out of yourself sometimes, in fact, I think it's needed. I'm glad it worked for you. Marsha

Now, at almost 7 months since my husband, Ben passed: I can look at a movie and enjoy it.
Ben loved any action thriller, old war movies,
(The Dirty Dozen, Platoon, Good Morning Vietnam and countless others) we loved Forest Gump. So I have gotten to a place where I can actually watch OUR movies and not be sad.
Yes, movies are a great way to relax, I agree,

I was visiting friends in Orlando for an extended weekend and ended up on Sunday completely shattered and tired from the whirlwind of socializing. Thankfully I was staying with a dear friend and we decided to cop out and watch movies all day in p.j.s. I think in total we ended up with six. It was a decadent reality escape. Nothing wrong with a good movie! :) Now back to SC and reality with me . .
