My business cards are of me, with short hair, less wrinkles and less tonage. In person, what you see is what you get. Kudos to you for taking it is such good stride. I wouldn't have been so graceful. It makes me so mad that people have such strong opinions about MY relationship and MY marriage. I have heard the "your free" speech. Its ignorance thats for sure. I don't wish this on anyone but when people say that I would like them to step into our shoes for a few days and just try to handle it.

Couple of weeks after my husband died a friend I hadn't seen in a long time began calling and asking me out to lunch. I thought she was just being nice and trying to make me feel I wasn't alone. Turned out her husband's brother had recently lost his wife and she thought it would be a good idea to play matchmaker because he was hanging around their house too much. I quit going to lunch. Still can't believe an adult human being could be that inconsiderate. Thank goodness back then I was numb and didn't care. Today I'd probably dump my plate in her lap and tell her it's for both her brother-in-law and me.

I do trade my grand kids about "prospecting" they are preteen. And both say "no way" I don't care to even think about another man. As my son said "Brian set the bar way too high for another man to live up to"

She was probably trying to sound you out in a funny way to see if you wanted to pursue another relationship yet. It was an incredibly insensitive way of doing that, however!

When I was able 2 months into being a widow, my coworker who was reknown for having a pretty checkered relationship past (3 kids all different fathers, never married, etc.), wanted me to "go clubbing to pick up some cute guys" because I was now "single." Geez..... like I was going to be over 30 years in 2 months? REALLY?!?!? Clueless, which coincidentally explained the wreckage her life was in, too.

I have ABSOLUTELY no intention of settling with anyone else. In addition I am 77 and my son and 3 grandsons would kill me if I so much a thouight about it. the idea of going through the whole courting process would give me nightmares :-)

I have also heard the comments about getting back out there, start dating, meet someone. My husband was the love of my life, a good man, loved me and our home, funny, caring... How can you replace that? The counselor at the support group brings up different scenarios so it doesn't have to be all or nothing. Guess it is all a process of how we move forward and what we want to make us happy.
