Hi John, I'm so very sorry you lost your wife in January 2016. I lost my husband, John, in August 2015 and I am still reeling on a wild roller coaster ride from hell. But you have come to the right place, for sure, here on DS because we all understand, have understanding, caring and compassion to help each other along this journey of grief, and "we get it." On the subject of scammers you are writing about here, especially the illiliterate foreigner who perpetrated this banking scheme, it is global, including romance scams. Go take a look, ,and you too ladies, at the website romancescam.com and you will see a cybercriminal nightmare perpetrated on widows who are emotionally vulnerable. This scam is so obviously written in bad English, and that is because these cybercriminals evil scammers, yes slimey, come from West Africa, and go work in scam call centers in Malaysia because the banking and technology systems in that country are highly tech-advanced. And of course, the FBI has no global jurisdiction there out of the U.S. law enforcement. Well, I won't say anymore here, cause I know a lot, and hope this helps any new, innocent, vulnerable widows and widowers out there who have no clue as to this cybercrime, because especially the babyboomer generation, coming out of 30 or 40 year marriages has no idea of this internet crime, we come from a different generation. John, And another thing, cliffskat is absolutely right, do not delete it. A person can trace the I.P. address of an email they received by going into the email click on the right hand side, and I think its "properties" or something you can click on, then there is this email code. There are "I.P. checks on google, and you just put in the I.P. address to find out the country of origin. But don't worry, as long as you keep this email the FBI Cyber Crime Unit can investigate it and most likely it will be from some foreign country like West Africa or Russia.

I got the exact same message. Never ever give out your bank account information or cell phone number unless you absolutely positively know who you are dealing with.

Oh I never do, besides my ministry degree I have an Associates in IT & Networking lol I was just mad they spammed my safe zone

Ugh, that is awful. Right after my mom died my dad got a phone call. Someone was doing the infamous grandparent scam, where the caller pretends to be your grandchild in trouble and needing money. Fortunately he discussed it with me and I had heard of the scam.......he hadn't. Pretty disgusting that people try to take advantage of widows and widowers when they are at their most vulnerable. Glad you didn't fall for the scam. Sylvia

Just so you know, DS banned that scammer shortly after I reported it. If you get anything like that in future, don't hesitate to report it.

And btw, they don't just target our group. Usually when they show up they are scamming amd spamming folks across multiple communities here, so reporting them may save some headache and hassle for a lot of DS members, not just us. The CLs watch for the spammers, scammers, predators and the like, and they have new tools for combatting all of that, but some will get through. It pays to be cautious anywhere on the internet, including here.
