I have made it through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's since my husband died on 9/30/15. I know his birthday in April will be hard but I was blindsided by how sad I would be about my own birthday which is tomorrow. It's not that we had a big party every year but he would always get me the sweetest card and flowers or something along that line. Most of all he was right there with me on my special day, as he was every day. I can count on one hand the times we were apart in our 38 years of marriage. I miss him so much.

Remember, it's more than just being caught off guard. you expended a lot of coping resources during the holidays. It adds up, and you are not in top form to meet this day.
I was off guard after holidays by having a "low fuel tank" emotionally, and something took me down fast, for no reason.
