First, let me start by telling you how sorry I am for your loss. Your loss is still so new, I don't really remember the first few months after my husband died, let alone weeks. We have 12, 14 and 16 year old kids, so I do feel your pain with that - there have been MANY times that my kids are the only thing to keep me going, one foot in front of the other. My husband was sick for just over a year, but was only TRULY ill for the last few weeks of his life. He fought for a long time; when he was done fighting, it was amazing how fast he went (it didn't feel that way as we were going through it). I can't imagine a 3.5 year battle: your wife must have been an incredibly strong person. Sending you strength and support.

We have a common thread, our journey is now intertwined with grief. It is beneficial to hear how others cope with this life changing experience.
It has been 3 years for me. Handle what you can for the day, tomorrow holds its own promises.
Overwhelming with so many changes but the ups & downs do level out with time.
We are survivors, helping each in our own unique strength.

I am so very sorry for your loss and I'm sure having young children to support through this is so difficult. I lost my husband 16 months ago. My children were in their mid 20's so I was able to receive support from them. I wasn't able to give them as much support as I would have liked. My own grief was too overwhelming. Initially I wanted to know how long I would feel the way I did (which was numb for a month) and how my life would unfold. It was so hard to face the unknown, knowing my life as I had known it was over. I soon realized one day at a time was the only way I could survive and 16 months and 10 days later I am surviving. I work a lot, make plans for weekends with family or friends and enjoy my four month old granddaughter who was born on her grandfathers first anniversary. My angel sent from him and God. Life has a way of just happening and I find that you just have to let it happen. Yes, I still miss him terribly, sometimes more than others but I am here and just trying to survive. I'm ok most of the time to the outside world, even happy for the most part. The missingness never leaves, you just get more used to it over time. I hope this helps so you know life ahead will not always be what it is right now. Take care of yourself and allow yourself to feel all of the emotions as you are ready.
