I know this is a bit off topic, but sometimes we need to go off course..
I love dogs, have 3 larger house dogs.
Outside I have a jack Russel terriorist who is my barn dog, keeps the unwanted critters out. I also have 2 Great Pyrene that stay with my goats and protect them. So I have dogs..LOL
Yesterday I met a few friends at a Hunt Club where we will be trialing next weekend to practice. I had to leave around 10am and home about 6pm.
When I got home I noticed a dark dog out with the Pyrene, I thought it was my one house dog, I had put in in the kennel for the day. But nope this dog had a tail..
So went out and there with my guard dogs was a Great Dane mix dog.
I got the 3 dogs behind the house and got my Pyrene back where they belonged. This new black dog looked in good shape but skitterish. I hate being mean to dogs but I don't need another mouth to feed and have to be careful with dogs and goats. Dogs like to chase and kill goats especially since this is baby time.
Anyway he was very shy, most likely abused or treated roughly by his owner. In good weight, newer collar..I left him in the front yard, he was gone this morning...hopefully back home..
Just wonder why people get these large bully breeds or any dog for that matter and be mean to them? When I approached him he just rolled over and showed his belly. BROKE MY HEART, I told myself nope don't feed him or be nice he can't stay.

Oh, I know exactly how you feel. You can't take every dog you see in need, no matter how much you want them to be cared for properly. I would have at least eight dogs, instead of two. The thing is some people view them as accessories instead of living creatures. Just so wrong.

I love dogs too. always have. The dog you see on my avatar is my Cleo who has gone to the rainbow bridge a few years back at 14 years of age. I purchased a puppy another basset hound when Jim died and I had two. Cleo perked up as she missed her daddy and lived a good long life. I still have that puppy now almost 6 years old and she keeps me going. I have a funny thing about keeping a dog for their whole life not giving up and giving them away. Mathilda my pup has a home a forever home with me.

I also am a dog person. I always wanted one as a child, but never did. So after my husband and I purchased our first home we invited a puppy to join our family. I have had a dog or dogs even since.

I fell in love with American Eskimo dogs and rescued them for a period of time. Would have loved to foster them, but the one I set out to foster became part of the family too.

They have all crossed the rainbow bridge over the years and I now have a maltese mix who is 1 year old. My first little guy dog who keeps me grounded and loved. Sharon

Oh, I'm so sorry you had to experience that. :( I'm a softie when it comes to animals. I have four currently and if I could afford it, would continue to rescue. Instead I volunteer for a local organization called Friends of the Animals and I give to the SPCA on a as I can afford it basis. (Makes me feel a bit better.) My heart aches for these furry babies that are mistreated and abused. You ask why and I wish I knew the answer. The only explanation that would make sense is these folks must be sociopaths without conscious!!

Dog lover here too!! I have a beagle mix that we got from the local shelter..he is the most expensive dog I will ever own...3800 smackers t!! Originally we adopted a puppy who after 1 day got sick...we took her to emergency hospital and she had parvo...I had never heard of it but I had a charge card and wanted to give her a chance...she lived for one week....the shelter let us get a free replacement since it was so costly to treat ...and that's how I got my baby Peppy

If we had the means to feed them my place would look like Niahs ark. As it is we have six dogs, 24 cats, two goats, 7 chickens 3 rabbits and a cockitiel. The majority are rescue animals including the cockitiel.
If a stray comes to our home and the other critters do not chase them off they usually have a home here as long as they want to stay

I respect people that like dogs. I just don't own one and with all I have on my plate I have no time for one. Dogs require a lot of maintenance.

I am not allowed to keep pets in my apartment, so for the first time in my life I am without dogs - but count me in there as one of the "doggy"
people!

I am so thankful to have my 2 dogs to come home too. I really don't know what I would have done without them in the early days of my grief. I have Border Collies, a brother and a sister that I've raised since birth. I had the parents and these are the 2 pups we kept from a litter. The "pups" are now 14 years old. Love my dogs!

I agree with everyone - dogs are wonderful companions. I have a 4-year old golden retriever. My husband picked him as a puppy. At night he sleeps exactly on the same cushion where my husband used to sit on the couch, then early in the morning, my dog will come through to the bedroom and lie next to me. Very comforting.
