Well, I made it through the day. My son came over and cooked some steaks, but then he had to go to work. I guess all the big fireworks happened at the air museum. No one invited the widow, so I just went to 76 and watched a few there. I shake my head at how people get so involved in every holiday. I wonder how they find the time, money, and energy to do all they do. I cried all the way home. I miss my husband. I guess life goes on for everyone else.

Aww, Sorry. Is there a Singles Group in your area?
Holidays can be lonesome. The singles groups usually plan parties as everyone is in the same situation. it's worth a try. Hugs, Dolores

I can tell you are having a hard time. I am so sorry. I know I keep saying that you have to give it more time. Of course that is the hard part because you are right, everyone goes on with their life while your reason for going on is no longer with you. It is hard and it does make you cry and holidays are the toughest times of all. It gets better though. Hang in there. You are in my thoughts and prayers. You will make it through this and live again. I thought I wouldn't, but here I am. I think you are right about how much holidays cost though. ;-)

shewearsblack17, I hear ya! EVERY holiday makes me miss my husband. I am sorry you cried all the way home. I dread the drives home from any occasion or gathering! This 4th I spent home alone with my dog.

Holiday is harder ones for sure. I am at 1.5 years into my widowhood and remember last years 4th. Which was absolutely horrible in many levels. I watched fireworks all alone on the top of the park and yes, I cried all the way home. ...
It was a little better this year but not really...
I assumed that it will be what it is for a long time if not always..
My daughter was having a bad day as well and I told her that it’s another day. It’s just another new day....
that’s how I go on everyday, it’s another day and today I will live as best as I can and try to be better than yesterday...

The up side of this is that I still have leftovers. I haven't had to do much cooking this week, as I now eat smaller portions.
