I doubt that will ever stop...

That will never stop. I am at the 22nd month mark today and still to this day I get mail under his name. I disconnected his phone a week after he passed, that took care of most calls.
I notified most creditors ( my lawyer did), magazines, etc, that minimized the amount of mail. At the end, I started checking my mail box only once a week, on my way to work, and I would bring all the mail to be sort it out while I was in the office to prevent me from having my lonely melt downs at home. I still do that and it works for me. Opening the letters at home, just makes you cry and cry without any help. Just my 2 cents.

My current Probate P.R. obtained an official change of address, so I don't get any of J's mail. Made me angry in the beginning . . perhaps it was a blessing in disguise? (However, I feel left out of the loop of my husband's personal business . . . unless it is shared in court.) The not knowing is probably as bad as the opening of said mail? I, also had J's phone disconnected about two weeks after his passing. We had our respective cell phones, no house phone equals no calls coming in for him. Sorry you are having to deal with these "reminders" of your loss. :( I wish I had better advice to offer. Perhaps some will be forth coming from other members. Hang in there . . xo, D

How bizarre that I just posted and then the neighbor brought in today's mail. I got three bank statements that weren't forwarded to the P.R. Perhaps the change of address/forward has expired? In any event, I was glad to receive these as it gives me a clue as to what has been going on the past nine months since mail started disappearing. Again, bizarre.

Almost as hearbreaking are the calls from a company....I would like to speak with Mr. Ben please.....last night I had had my fill and I told him, well, I would too and just hung up!

I am afraid there will always be some kind of reminder.

I am okay with the mail, it's the phone calls asking for my husband that drive me crazy. I stopped answering the house phone unless I recognize the number. I had an issue trying to rollover my hubbys 401 k to me and the woman kept calling it my ex's 401 k. I finally said he is not my ex-husband so please stop calling him that. Why are people so stupid. If you can't think of the term late husband then just say husband but ex??

I would get upset getting the mail in his name at first, now I don't mind it. The phone calls are another matter. I am really snotty to the callers asking for him... I can't help it.

I am glad to see this post and the responses...I was hoping it would end soon, been 12 months and I am still getting mail and phone calls for my husband....it is certainly upsetting...After reading the responses it appears this many continue for a long time.

two years after Rob's death, and I was still receiving advertising mail from our phone company with his name on it... still receiving mail from the hospital lotteries...still getting calls...
For a while I was just tossing the mail, just hanging up on the calls after saying "He's DEAD."
Then, I thought, enough of this BS.
With the phone calls, I immediately asked for the person's manager/supervisor. I informed them of Rob's passing 2 years ago, asked that his name be taken off the list, because (in a tearfilled voice) everytime I heard them ask for him it got me upset to no end.
With the mail - I'd open it, call the contact numbers on the mail, and do the same - politely and in a tearful voice ask them to pull his name from the mailing lists...
Amazingly, most of the calls have stopped - just one holdout.
Mail as all stopped, so far.

I still get mail. 26 months here. It doesn't bother me like it used to. house taxes come with his name, then mine. No longer have a home phone. I am retired. I pay attention to the things connected with me. Throw the stuff to him away. He don't need them any more.

I did get a letter from the sheriff saying he had a ticket he hadn't paid. An threatened him with arrest. I called them and told them he was deceased. They said, thank you, will take it of our books? Didn't even ask for proof.

Good one Sandee . . . maybe I'll try that the next time I get a ticket. LOL Okay, not so funny, but did make me chuckle thinking of the possibility.

I had a phone call from NY yesterday telling me I needed to make myself available for a 'serving' on a civil or criminal matter . . be available from 8-12 next day. I went through the roof! What do you mean criminal? I'm not a criminal! I was given another number to call for additional information. Called . . and was told I had an outstanding bill with Sprint from 2002 (never used Sprint, ever) and that I would be served for a civil case, next day. Well guess what? I left my doors open for three bad-ass looking dogs to run out (as I always do, living rural) . . and no one showed up. Not yesterday, not today. Talked to a friend . . who told me this is one of the newest and latest scams to try to get you to settle out of court for a debt that's not even yours! WOW!

OMG.. lol I am still getting all the goofy catalogues that my hubby would sit with & order from. Sometimes I tell him out loud.. "Here's a new one for you" but I seriously am going to have to find some time to get them to stop mailing me the catalogues... I just toss them in the recycle bin.

To me getting mail is a reminder he was here. It seem like 25 yrs ago and its only 3 1/2. Will the hurt ever stop?

I called the magazines, and returned a few pcs of mail and marked "deceased" on them. I couldn't take it. Especially the "pre plan your funeral" and "life insurance" ones.
