I lost my wife of 30 years Feb. 16th. I have 3 daughters 27, 24, and 17. I have been overwhelmed by the amazing love and support of so many family and friends, but I can feel the "quiet" time starting. I have been blessed with so many friends that I know I can count on, but there just seems to be a level of understanding that they simply do not have. I have appreciated so many of your post and comments as they have made me feel not so alone. I am so lost between disbelief and heartache, and I am terrified about failing my girls. Monday is my wife's 51st birthday, and I really need some suggestion about what to do with my girls. Do we sit around cry some more, or find a way to celebrate the past love? Any suggestions or stories would be appreciated. Thank you - Ty

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

The first birthday after my husband‘s passing, my daughter, her boyfriend and I celebrated quietly at Ira’s favorite restaurant. I also planted a red rosebush in his honor that has a lovely story behind it. Seeing that bush bloom and thrive in such beauty reminds me of the love that we had and that somehow a little piece him still lives on. I plan on moving in the near future into my new chapter two. I will leave that bush at “our home”. When settled though, my new love and I plan on planting two new rose bushes, this time yellow, at “our new home” to honor our past loves lives. Seeing those new rose bushes bloom will still keep them close to our hearts along with all of our memories and remind us of the love we both had for so many years with two very special people!
Whatever you decide to do will be fine. Yes there will be tears but also sprinkle in fond memories and smile because of those. “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened!”
Warm hugs and best wishes to you for strength and courage.

3 weeks after Cliff died, it was one our sons' birthdays. I was still in so much pain and shock that I couldn't manage anything, so some friends made dinner for us. My sons were so grateful for that. Cliff's birthday was about 9 months after his death, and on that day I was in the middle of natural disaster (serious tropical storm), so that distracted us, sort of.
My advice would be to maybe order in pizza with your girls, maybe look over old photos together, have a good cry, and raise a glass in your wife's honor.
Your girls may try to protect you from how deeply their are in pain as they won't want to add to yours. That's what my guys did, and it was counter-productive as it made it so much harder on them and didn't spare me anything. Anyway, we talked and talked and talked, and they learned it was okay to cry and miss their Dad. We grieved together.
I am sorry for the loss that brings you here, and I hope being here helps you. Welcome.
Love and Hugs,
