So what upset you, specifically? Are you questioning the religious aspect of the preacher's speech? I'm asking for a reason - I've found that I've questioned a lot of what I kind of took as gospel for a lot of my life. (Not the spiritual side - the religious side). Please do talk some more! Attending church services upset me too. It's just an emotional response to the words and especially if you find them fitting to you personally. It gives me things to think about and sometimes they make me happy and other times sad. If you want to be more specific you can or talk to the one giving the sermon for clarification. Sharon

I was upset because it brought my loss to the forefront again. Of course our loss is always with us.....it's just that we divert our thoughts to other things to enable us to go on in this life......or at least that has been my coping mechanism for the last 14 months. That's all I was saying. I should have only gone to the visitation and not stayed for the funeral. Thanks!

After 2 years had gone by, I started to go to a new church. The first few sermons almost fit directly at my situation and yet they don't even know me. Sometime the music was so beautiful but sad that tears came out. When they asked me if my husband goes to church or was he with me. I told them he passed away and I don't want to talk about it so they stop asking me. I went to 2 funerals after my husband's. They told me now they know how hard it was for me to lose a love one.

I know what you mean. When preachers say things like that they only emphasize the separation we feel. Some hymns get me down too. In The Sweet By and By doesn't do much for the suffering we feel right here. Just means your spiritual needs run deeper now.

i believe the sermon you heard at the funeral, stirred you. We're those tears, agonizing or did they have hope?
There is a beautiful hymn, called "Tears are a Language that God understands" I truly believe that and accept those tears as a true gift.
The Bible us God's word to. Those words can stir up the mind and the heart. My hope, peace love and joy come from HIS Promise, that If I accept His Gift of Salvation..Romans 10:9 I will have eternal life.
My husband and I believe that with every ounce of our beings.

My wife and I attended church weekly, but now I have had a problem going. Instead of being uplifting like I know it should be, I feel sad. We used to hold hands during the sermon and I seem to lose it when I see others doing that. I still hope to make my way back as I know I need Jesus in my life.

I'll go for a time feeling as if I'm functioning well & moving forward but then something will trigger some sad feelings. Recently I was driving someplace, by myself now, & the scenery was so pretty, lots of autumn colors & so peaceful. That moved me to tears.

I can relate to the funeral upsetting you. I went to many wakes and skipped the service for that reason. When I did attend the next funeral service it was for my girlfriend mother who I was also close to and I was upset for a week. It felt like my husband all over again. Thanks for sharing.
