My grand daughter turns 6 today. And she wants to go fishing. Was invited but don't know if I can do it. We had a boat, sold it and were going to buy a pontoon. But he got so sick. So my son in law and his dad have purchased a boat together and are going to a small area lake today. I want to be there for Lola, but the thought of my husband not being there is more than I can deal with. I can't stand the thought of making new memories without him. Cuz I am not happy!! I find little joy in anything. especially when I know he can't be here to share. Hugs to all, Michele

I know it is so hard. We didn't have any children & now I wish maybe we had to carry on Larry's name, but it wasn't to be.

As hard as it is, please go for your granddaughters sake. And do it for your loving husband. You will look back and be glad that you did...

I'll go!!!!... My son and his 2 children, my other grandson and I went last year. I found I was teaching them how granddaddy used to fish. Told them funny stories that happened. It was fun. Sandee

You may regret not going. When those family occasions come up i just carry my mate in my heart. It is bittersweet. Children live in the here and now and she will miss you not being there. Patti

The grandchildren already lost one grandparent. You have to step up and not have them feeling that they lost 2.

I totally agree with everything everyone has already said! I know it is hard. But I forced myself and after was so glad I did!!! You maybe surprised and feel your husband right there in spirit. Talking about him may give you comfort. If you do have a tear or two, how wonderful is that! You are showing your Granddaughter how much you loved her Grandfather and how truly special he was! Take it minute by minute but I have complete faith you will be just fine. Diane

I guarantee, if you are strong enough, to make the effort to go fishing, with you granddaughter , you will benefit a thousand fold.
I too, was faced with these decisions to make memories, with each of my grandchildren. It took lots of effort,sometimes I just wanted to stay in my "box" and not be disturbed.
You may still feel like that and decide not to go, that's ok too. I just know, when you start to give that extra bit of yourself again, especially to the very people that need you, you will have made a Big step.

I envy you so much - I will never be blessed with grandkids. However, whenever I look at my sons, I know that a piece of my father and of their father is still alive because they are. Little Lola has a piece of your husband - go and love that wonderful little bit of him that's still here.
