It does get better. I know that is hard to believe at five months and maybe you're tired of hearing that time helps, but for me it has. Also, what has helped me is all the crisis that I have survived and even triumphed over.
I have found that I don't stress when things happen to me because the worst possible thing has already happened to me and I've survived. I've had leaky pipes, busted radiator on the interstate while alone and 50 miles from home, several jobs done at the house, new ductwork and insulation put in the attic, more car repairs, and a massive clean up of everything in my house and two garages and yard sale this past summer.
Each one of these things have built my confidence in being alone and have made me stronger. Maybe I've gotten off topic a little, but I think fear was part of what was going on with me the first year as well as grief. I had no idea how I would survive alone, but somehow I did have.
