I was just given "Praying God's Word" by Beth Moore. It isn't a complete grief counseling book but it has a chapter on Overcoming Despair Resulting from Loss. I would like to share a short excerpt from the book that struck me.
"While grief is not a stronghold, lengthy life draining despair is. Blocking the healing, restorative power of God places a believer in a painful, literally debilitating, yoke of bondage." It goes on to say the Satan has no heart and rather than leave us alone in our heart-rending grief, uses the opportunity to do his work on us.
I have read postings from those who seem in endless despair and know the I do not want to live my life in grief. I was so lifted by this excerpt and felt in my heart that though I am still grieving and have my days of near despair, my faith and trust in God is leading me through this valley and God can restore abundant life if we let Him do so.
I hope someone helps you find the book you are searching for.

Don't know about the other one but one I liked was called Life After Loss.......can;t remember author...sorry.

One I liked was Widow to Widow by Genevieve Davis Ginsburg

Grief and Grieving by Elisabeth Kubler Ross - it has helped me immeasurably. Dr. Ross devoted her life to death, near death experiences and finally, the 5 stages of grief. She died before the book went to print. I swear, she gets me. She understand what we are going through. Her writings have held me up the last few weeks. I plan on reading the book again because I think as I make it through the next weeks and months I will glean even more from her writings.

Sorry - I did a search of the discussion board archives but don't see a posting mentioning "Grieving Mindfully" any more recently than July. Hopefully the person will write again or you will get other helpful suggestions from the folks here.
