Friend had brain surgery.........

on Tuesday and thing went well but...she thinks she is in her home and all these people are there with her, today she says she is in a mall and she is going to report them all to the health board. Her sister is staying with her as friend gets upset if she leaves and gets mad at her. Is this a drug reaction? She is walking assisted, but has not slept. The ativan did not relax her either. How long does it take to get meds out of your system IF in fact this is the cause of her outbursts and IF they have been changed. I am

whew - I would call her Dr. don't know if they can talk to you about her - but it sounds serious. Ask her next of kin to call the dr. Something sounds very wrong. Take care.

I agree about calling the doctor. Sometimes meds are the problem and other times the brain needs time to recover. My husband had brain surgery and did not exhibit any of the symptoms you are mentioning, however, I was told that this type of surgery could cause personality changes. Prayers your way.

OMG - brings back memories of when my father was given Ativan after his heart surgery. He was out of his mind and we were convinced a large part of it was the Ativan.

No sleep is not good - my father didn't sleep either. So much can depend on the patient's health how long it can take to get a drug out of their system. Hope it is the drugs - also anything major (like surgery) can be traumatic for the brain and it can take a while for the brain to calm down - even surgeries other than brain surgery can be hard on the brain. (Read all about these things when my father had his problems.)

My son is 21 and he had a seizure back in November (don't know why). A week later he still had some problems (strange sensations, tingling in legs, etc.). Neurologist said that the seizure was traumatic for the brain and it might take weeks for the brain to calm down and be back to normal - but that these sensations would defintely go away because there is no permanent damage from a seizure. Brain surgery is obviously much more traumatic than a seizure.
