That's great! I hope it works out for you. I couldn't find any groups I could get to when Cliff died, it's one of the reasons I wound up at DS. I think it's a good first step for you. Keep us posted!

Hi Bandi, you will be fine. You won't have to say anything you don't want to. Share only what you feel like sharing or nothing at all. Its not scary. It's a way to meet new friends. The group I was in was very small and I just did it to get out of the house. I did met a few friends from it. I hope it helps you get through the pain we all go through.

I agree with nowjustme. If you don't feel like talking that's ok. I know it's a real comfort for me to just be in the same room with a group of people that are going through the same pain and misery. In time you'll find that you've made some new friends (and that's always nice). Give it a try and let us know how you did.

Bandi I am happy for you. I did a grief support group when I was at about 6 months. I was the youngest in our group of 10 and at first thought it wouldnt work. But as we talked and shared our journey and feelings were so similar. Having them and DS were both huge coping strategies for me. That group ran for 8 weeks we then started meeting once a month informally for coffee. Next week our group will be joining another widow and widowers group for a dinner outting just for the social aspect. As Joann said you can sit and just listen or share. There is absolutely no pressure. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. I hope the expeieince is a positive one for you. Gerald

I tried one group. One time was enough. I was the youngest one there with a new baby along for the ride. I would say everyone was over 50 and did not appreciate my child being there. I have thought of starting a group for younger people with children. We need our space as well and seems it is hard to fine within the hospice groups and the grief groups sponsored by funeral homes.

I am glad you located a Griefshare Group near you. I joined a Griefshare Group in February. We have already met five times. I believe our course runs for 13 weeks. My group is small, but the ladies are lovely. We are all widows, and share many of the same feelings and experiences. It is informal and faith-based.
While it is somewhat helpful, I truly feel the DS site has been the most incredible help!!! Finding this gang of kind, warm-hearted friends has been a God-send!
I hope you derive some satisfaction from the group. It is worth a try!

My first session of GriefShare was a success! Although it was a small group, it was pretty evenly balanced between men and women. The people were warm and caring, and I felt very much at ease with them. Despite my tears, I did manage to tell them my story (anyone here who would like to know me better is welcome to read my explanatory journal entry) and I think the group is a good fit for me.

Thanks to all of you who recommended GriefShare to me. Of course, DS is still my #1 source of comfort on a daily basis!
