My husband died in April 2014 as well. I have been thinking a lot about what to do that day. I booked my counsellor that day, little bit of self care I guess. I will go to the cemetery and I am sure there will be lots of tears. He died at home so I think I will spend time where he last was, and will release a balloon. Other than that I don't know, but will be interested to follow this post.

My husband passed away in March last year. The anniversary date I have a group meeting and "might" bring a small led candle and his picture. Not sure yet. His remains are in my home so can't go to a cemetery... At times I can't believe a year has passed. The hardest year of my life... I was holding his hand when he died, my other hand on his heart. It changed my life forever.. Always thought we would grow old together... Now trying to take it all day by day.

On the first anniversary of my loss the only plan was to get through the day. Taking things moment by moment. I planned time alone to journal my feelings in my notebook and time to be with our children. I tried to focus on the good and funny memories, while not dwelling on the loss. I felt it was important to find things to celebrate in his life with us. I can't say missing him wasn't a part of the day, but it was important to also have the good times celebrated too.

Even though I was very social with him, in the years he's been gone I found I can like my own company too. Do what you need to do, whether it's being busy or being alone. It's still your day. Sharon

I read on a widow's blog about walking on a beach and that really sounded perfect for me. I booked a trip to Corpus Christi, Tx. - a place I have never been before to symbolize my new life beginning, a new, solo adventure. On the actual day of Rick's "first heavenly birthday" 4/25/15 I am renting a car and driving to South Padre Island and will spread some of his ashes off a jetty that he loved to fish from. We had many wonderful vacations there. So a combination of memories mixed with new adventure...many walks on the beach to tell him I love him, I miss him, I made it through the year, and now I need to start a new life.....and I know he will be smiling down. March 25 will be the first anniversary of the biggest loss of my life. Not sure what I will do. Probably just get through the day somehow, and hope for a brighter year ahead.

I married my wife 3/1/14. She died 2/19/15. I spent our 1st anniversary lying in bed, watching TV, and crying. It was pretty unbearable.

I wish there was a magic pill that made everything ok, or at least bearable.

Maybe you will be in a better place, by then. One can hope, anyway. I hope I am, next year.
