This will be our first Father's Day celebration without Michael.
I am really at a loss as to how to approach this day. I was interested to find out how others have approached this day.
My daughter's day care teacher pulled me aside yesterday to ask me about what she thought for this year's Father's Day craft. While the others will be doing a project with Reeses Pieces candies and a poem, she is going to get a vase, styrofoam, and silk flowers and let Abigail make her own flower arrangement for him. I appreciate her thinking of Abigail in this way. It just absolutely breaks my heart (it would break Michael's, too) that my 4 year old will be making a craft to put at his grave rather than put in his hands.
Again, your mind thinks back to how suddenly your life can change. Just last Father's Day, she was handing him a homemade stepping stone for our garden and he just loved it. If you would've have told us he wouldn't be here to see his gift the next year, we wouldn't have believed it.
Sorry, I got off course a little bit. I was just wanting to get some ideas of how others have handled this or are planning to handle this for the first time this year.

My heart really goes out to you. As hard as this has been for me, I can't imagine it happening when our children were young. God bless you.

At school kaiya (7) made a craft for someone...maybe me or a grandpa she said. She was ok with it being a father day craft for the rest of that class though. Her teacher asked her.
In the beginning I wrote him letters about what a great dad he was. I found the anticipation of special days are very painful, often worse than the day itself. So over time I've tried to let go of the plans and let the day come as it will. Sharon
