Sorry, I misunderstood. These guys are contacting you on FB, not DS. Maybe there is still some wisdom to be garnered by Martha's discussion post on scammers??

Sadly, there are some unscrupulous people out there who will try to exploit anyone they can, in order to gain anything they can. Just ignore them...that's your best bet...after awhile, even the most persistent ones will stop.
I had such a message a couple of years ago...before my husband was even sick...and I did just that - ignored it - he never contacted me again.

Do you know how to block people on Facebook?

To block someone:

Click at the top right of any Facebook page.
Click How do I stop someone from bothering me?
Enter the name or email address of the person you want to block and click Block.
If you entered a name, select the specific person you want to block from the list that appears.
People will not be notified when you block them.

If you can't find someone using this method, try going to the person's profile and selecting Block from the menu on their cover photo.

I don't accept friend requests from anyone I don't know.

I get those kind of messages once in awhile and I just ignore them or block if annoying enough. I know just by reading that they could not have read my profile and they know nothing about me
I only accept friend requests from people I already know or those who have friends in common

My co-worker's friend communicated with someone like the one your described. She was falling in love with this person because she was not happy in her marriage. We told her this is a scam he wanted to have her address etc. She stopped responding to him, then she received message from his friend to tell her that he missed her etc. We told her not to fall for it. Be careful, don't fall for the scam.

The probability is that all 3 of them are sitting in front of computers in Nigeria and are scammers. The ruse of being a lonely military man gets used by the scammers, too. I suggest you use mannie's suggestion and block them.

Yes..Usually they have no history on the fb profile.................I block them immediately.

My sister who was widowed 6 months before me received such a request and started chatting with the guy who one he found out that my sister was at the time living with her daughter drop her like a tone of brick saying that he did not want to pursue dating someone who lived with their children. I told my sister that her wanting to have someone in her life so badly would lend her in trouble !
In these days an age it is such a simple thing to do an internet search and inform oneself about the do's and don'ts of social interaction!
One of the reason while my relationship status on FB does not list me as a widow.

I also got a friend request from a U.S. "military" man. I ignored it and when I just went back to see his name, it's gone! My approach is to ignore requests from people I don't know.
I believe that the "pretty smile" comment is a common one, though you do have a pretty smile Fay LOL
