Today marks exactly eight months since Sam's tragic accident. I will not recount the details here; those who wish to know more about me may read my single journal entry. But I marvel at the fact that I have come this far. For those who have just recently lost their loved one, I can offer a few simple statements:

I have very little recollection of the first few months of my grief. Whether you want to call it shock, a fog, or the mind insulating itself from the pain of grief ... many here at DS have experienced the same thing, and it appears to be a normal reaction, one that eventually lessens.

I've said this as a response in several threads, but it bears repeating. Although I have joined a very good grief support group, the encouragement and compassion I've received here on DS is unsurpassed. This site has truly been my rock, my refuge whenever I thought I just couldn't get through another day. And for that I am so grateful.

Finally, even though we all share some aspects of our grief, no two people grieve exactly the same way. There's no blueprint for this, no set pattern. But with the help of those who are walking the same path, the road becomes easier to travel.
