Did anyone see the 60 Minutes show on CBS last night where Maggie Smith, the famous British actress who plays on the wildly popular Downton Abbey was interviewed about her life. She's up there around 80 I believe. When asked what life was like after her husband died and did she want to remarry, she said no, never plan to remarry. And then, she said what she felt after losing her husband was, What's the use anymore? She has 2 beautiful homes and she looked around at the lovely landscaping and said she just has no feeling for it anymore. She said she has no more motivation to do anything other than her acting which she loves.
I just thought I'd point out that we who feel, What's the use anymore? are in good company with Maggie Smith. I was shocked to hear her words on TV because most of us only talk like that with other widowed persons. I just hope some ignorant people heard her and have a better understanding of what it's like to be left alone. Thank you, Maggie Smith. You are an amazing actress and helped me feel like I wasn't the Lone Ranger. I'm in company with you!

I love Downton Abbey. I just discovered it after Don passed. I went to my local library and got all 3 Seasons and have watched them to get ready for Season 4 in the fall.
I did not see her on tv but would have loved too. I'm with you. That just validates what a lot of us are feeling. I have no interest in meeting anyone or getting married again. That might just be for now but I do not think so. I would have to literaly fall over a man to notice one. I stay so busy with work & trying to keep everything up by myself I have no time or inclination at this time. I still love & miss my husband. I still feel married to him.
Maggie Smith is a great actress. I am sorry to hear she lost her husband.
