Do pets/animals have Souls?

I would like to think some of our favorite pets would transition to an afterlife (if one existed), and be available to greet our departed spouses.

jean had a number of near death hallucinations. one was of a little dog that used to come out from behind the tv and do cute tricks for her. it made her smile, i pretended to see it as well

The Catholic says no. The medium says yes. I don't know the part about meeting departed spouses.
