I picked up my grand daughter, Ava, at 830 this morning... she is 15 months old and a very good baby!! It's my son's weekend to have her, but he had a charity golf outing so she spent the day with me. Then, my daughter-in-law got dropped off her by her mom... and my 2 year old grand daughter was with her. The 2 year old, Anabelle, practically lived with us for over a year... up until her Papa died. I love both of them so very much. But Anabelle refuses to leave when she comes over. I know this has been so very hard on her. She loved her Papa and he adored her.
Ava is asleep in the living room, and her daddy is staying the night here on the couch... Anabelle... well, she is in my bed... This is the 3rd night she has stayed since I lost Shane... It is so hard to hear her screaming and crying as they pull her off of me...
I do not want to go back to having her all of the time, but I feel so mean telling her she has to go. But today... I am worn out! I told her that if she stayed, she would have to go home in the morning, and she said "okay". Yeah right... lol. She will not be so agreeable come daylight. They are wonderful girls. Ava is a bit more independent (I can go pee without taking her with me)... Anabelle is always on me or holding my hand and will not let me out of her sight.

Oh yes the grands not wanting to go home! And how we let them manipulate us!! I went through that with my oldest, she never wanted to leave. Finally I would stash some little treats or a cheap toy in a little sandwish bag and she knew when mommie or daddy came to get her she would have a treat to take with her. Yes she misses her grandpa terribly, but through the eyes of a child she knows he is in Heaven. He isn't sick andymore, doesn't have to walk with a cane, he has his foot back and he can fly!! A while back she caught me crying and we talked about grandpa and how much I miss him. She said: Grandma just send him a text, he will come visit you". Broke my heart, but what a sweet little girl. Hugs to all, Michele

We hate to see our grands leave unwillingly, but it is not anything we need to feel guilty about. We are teaching them that they are home with their parents and visit their grandparents for a special treat. Spoiling our grandchildren is IMO almost a right as long as it respects their parents rules and I miss having my granddaughters being children. They are adults now and leading their adult lives. Savor the precious time you have with them as the years pass so quickly. But make sure you keep time for yourself. Sharon
