Last night I put my husband's urn in a carrying bag preparing to take him to his parents' home to have our annual October birthday dinner. I put him by the door as I get the salmon out from the oven to take over there. My 8 year grandson came into my hut.
I said: Watch out for grandpa by the door, don't knock him over.
8 year old said: Hi Grandpa.
5 year old came in and said: Hi Nana.
I said: Watch out for grandpa by the door.
8 year old said to his brother: Say Hi to Grandpa.
5 year old said: Hi Granpa.
8 year old said: Look at Granpa to say Hi.
5 year old said: Where is Granpa?
I said: By the door on the floor.
5 year old said: OH, Hi Grandpa.
I am very impressed with the children who still remember Grandpa. They were 5 and 2 years old when Grandpa passed away. The eight year old is so keen and respectful to have his younger brother looking at the urn to said hello to Grandpa. At times we talked about Grandpa. He would tell me Grandpa took him riding on the lawn mower and tractor. Just want to share.

I also love to keep my grandchildrenns memories of their "Sabby" alive.
I believe it is important for them t know their heritage.

They all have a picture of him in their bedrooms. Oldest great gradson has it on his pillow everynight to go to sleep.
When the youngest was just over two his mom my granddaughter heard him talking in his crib. She went in and asked him who he was talking to he pointed to the corner of the room said Poppa.

Thank you Lois11, I too put his hat from Peru (where he lived as a boy) on top of his urn. Love your story on the baby talking to his Poppa. Children are so precious and perceptive in their own way. They bring so much joy to us in our otherwise difficult times.
Thank you Ozzielass. I talked to my husband all the time too. I put a picture of us behind my monitor at work. Every time I look up he is there to comfort me when I have a bad day at work. We are not crazy.
