One of the first things I did as a new widow was to redecorate. My color scheme is greens and yellows, both colors that lift the mood. At the beginning I had high blood pressure. Now it's almost normal and I look forward to coming home. I'm instantly relaxed the minute I walk into the room and I sleep like a baby each night. It's a natural way to help relieve the depression that comes with widowhood.

I've redecorated quite a bit as well and am slowly adding red/navy blue accent colors to my beige neutral theme with pillows, rugs, picture frames, etc. Thanks for the site- I'll have to refer to it when it comes time to paint because Lord knows I need soothing tones when I come home.

I need some suggestions on what to put on my fireplace mantel. Our house was always kind of hunter/fisher deco. I have removed all things animal now and have added leather furniture, a beautiful wicker room divider and a large canopy tiffany lamp in many colors. I have no idea what to do with the mantel. Any suggestions???

Glad to hear I'm not alone in redecorating.I bought new bedroom furniture and a lifechest to put my husbands belongings in I want to keep. Changed the house to a more floral theme than ever before. When spring comes the paint will also. The change has settled my anxiety quite a bit. :)

After Cliff's death, I redecorated our bedroom in shades of lilac and lavender, and I found that very soothing. It also made it definitely "my" room instead of "our" room, which for me was a big help. I know that's not the case for everybody, but my husband died in our bed, and the freak show circus of the 8 paramedics trying to bring him back all happened in our bed in our bedroom. I would never have gotten any sleep in that room if I hadn't changed it.

I see from the article that purples are supposed to be soothing. For me it was!

I thought before I commit to any one or two colors I would print pictures from the internet.

Now I am busy finding and printing pictures.
