situations where you are talking to someone battling cancer without telling them your spouse died of cancer. I had a situation recently where I was at a fundraising event for cancer and was speaking to a person whose daughter is fighting the disease. I shared with her that my husband died of cancer. I mentioned it because I wanted to show empathy for what she and her family are going through, but later realized that was probably not very encouraging to her at all and yet my whole world has been colored by cancer these past 2 years. It is always at the forefront of my mind. How could I have handled this better, because I'm sure this will come up again. Cancer seems to be everwhere, and in my family and my late husband's family alone 4 members have been diagnosed with it and have or are undergoing treatment. Thanks.
