I've had people make those kinds of insensitive comments to me, too..and they sting like nothing else. My husband was in a wheelchair for the last 2 years of his life, from an injury not related to the condition that killed him. My own mother actually said, 'Well at least you won't have to push that wheelchair around anymore'...I was completely speechless...for a moment...how could anyone say such a thing? I told her that I would gladly push it 24/7 for eternity if it meant he was here with me.
Unfortunately, you can't control what comes out of peoples' mouths..but it does leave a foul taste in ours...take care,
wendi
Honestly, there were times I felt like I had a brick wall between myself and everyone else. I couldn't seem to get the point across re how devastating this was - and then I just didn't say much at all. It's better now - mainly because of a couple of things. First, over the past years, I've seen my friends go through a similar torment, and saw myself in them - and....second, now, I say what I want to. If I'm feeling bad, I say it, if I'm missing Joe, I say it. I'm assuming my friends are adult enough not to faint dead away if I mention my dead husband's name. Hugs, Marsha

And i know this woman talked to us about her husband disease and she kept saying the only thing that makes her make this is the fact she knows his disease is not fatal,so he wont die of it!

I've made such blunders before so it's easy to ignore at the time but then sometimes the annoyance festers and I feel really angry for a day.
And then if we did there would still be those who do not care what they say because they like to feel they said good things or are just plain dumb. Sorry had to say that....
Hugs at this time these insensitive remarks hurt worse.
Some people, including my own parents, seem to find comfort in believing that it was going to be worse. Such as "it's a good thing he died, because if he had lived, he'd be a brain dead vegetable". How did they know that? They didn't, but it gave them comfort to believe this. Used to drive me crazy.
