I just finished reading a book called "Lydia's Charm." It's a book set in the Amish community and involves several widows/widowers. I not only learned about the Amish community, but also how they deal with grief.

I envy them. They have so much support. Lydia's Charm is a sad book but also there is much happiness. Sort of like real life.

The book changed my perception of something: my need to never marry. This book made me ask myself why. I came up with an answer: I feel that I could never be bleessed enough to find another good man. I believe that this only happens once in life. I'm so certain of this fact that I've decided not to bother looking.

So why do I feel this way, I wondered. That's simple too. In Lydia's Charm the men are respectful toward women. They're not just looking for sex, they're looking for a relationship that matters.

But look at our 21st century life. I have a friend who went out on a first date and the man wanted to talk about how good he was in bed. She was shocked and never went out with him again. But, unfortunately, this sort of man is becoming the norm. And I'm the sort of woman who doesn't kiss on the first date. How on earth can a woman like me possibly fit in this century?

Reading Lydia's Charm made me want to pack my bags and move to an Amish community. The God fearing men is this book were eons ahead of the lot that I have to pick from.

I'd recommend the book to those looking for a quiet read that offers insight into another world.
