Ok friends, I finally got the courage. I made the call to the agency and had a new job waiting for me. I go in Wednesday afternoon to fill out the paperwork and get my assignment. I start providing respite care next week. I told them I feel a strong calling to work with hospice and will move to that capacity when an appropriate position is available.
It is a little scary an I'm sure I will come home and shed a lot of tears some days. But I'm sure I will also come home with the sure knowledge I've made a difference. I am SO grateful for the help and support from hospice during the final journeys of my beloved Big Swede and my parents. I need to give back that live and support to others.
I still grieve my huge personal loss but maybe this will give purpose to tge rest of my days. Am I delusional or does this make any sense to anyone else?

You have to follow your heart. If you feel a calling to help others through hospice- then how could I nay-say such a good intentioned effort to make the world a better place?
I have found that anytime I have tried to do something different- there is always someone who doesn't think it's a good idea for one reason or another. Thank God (literally) for making me strong willed and determined, if he had not, and I had listened to all the advice I had been given- I wouldn't have had nearly the beautiful journey through this life that I have had.
It's not that I haven't made some whopper mistakes in my day- because I absolutely have. But I learned from each one of them.
Bottom line- YOU are the only person who knows if this is the right move for you. And you won't really know until you get your feet a little wet. Just know that if you start- and then have second thoughts, that is okay.
Wishing you much success in this noble endeavor!
Peace, Tim
As you go forward, know that the world is a better place because somebody IS doing it.
Best of luck...God Bless you and the Healers of the world.
