This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
During a discussion of New Years Eve plans a co-worker asked me if I was doing anything fun tonight. I told her my wife and I used to go to our downtown Opening Night celebration which is huge here but without her it was not much fun at all.
She told me that her and her husband were staying at home. They were inviting a neighbor over that had lost her husband five months ago and was having a difficult time with it. To my surprise, she asked me about my grief journey.
I began to tell her about the shock, trauma, and numbness that occurr before the full onslaught of emotions that slam into you. At this point I was surprised that she was still wanted to talk about it as many people are very uncomfortable with this.
She really wanted to help her friend and I saw an opportunity to provide support to someone that needed it. I gave her the information to get here to the support group and told her how much everyone here at DS had helped me.
I offered my copies of "I Wasn't Ready to Say Goodbye" (Brook Noel & PamelaD. Blair) and " "Seven Choices" (Elizabeth Harper Neeld). I told her how much they had helped me in this journey and told her that they would help her understand her feelings.
I discovered as I was doing this that I found a little piece of myself. As I move forward however, I am also discovering that these pieces do not fit back together like they did before. I am a different person now and somehow that's a wonderful thought.

How special! I tonight talked with my only the only aunt I have left who lost her husband a short time ago. I suggested she join this site and I'm sure she will. She like us is just lonely as she had a lot more years than I with her husband. She also has a friend that needs us and I'm also sure she will join. What compassionate, caring and kind group of individuals are connected here. It has helped me greatly in my journey and all of you reading my often ramblings and offbeat at times posts make me have purpose. I never thought myself a writer but from all the hugs I get I must be doing something correctly. If I am helping your hearts mend that is my purpose and throwing out the positive mental attitude as much as I can. Many of you pm me and I really appreciate your feedback. Thanks for the support of all of you as you are helping me morf into the new Dewey so I can aid in making the world a kinder place. Peace be with all of my DS sisters and brothers. I'm really shocked how many of us men are in this journey. As most know I'm a statistician and this data flow does not seem to correlate the population trends. Men, we are losing our ladies far earlier that the stats show. So much for the Dewman rant! Peace and a kind and loving 2015 for everyone! Dewey
