My husband Steve was a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, and Springsteen's music connected his whole family. In fact, it was the soundtrack of Steve's entire life. The music deeply touched his heart, reminded him of his youth, and expressed what he sometimes could not. It's difficult to put into words what it meant to him; while he was in the hospital, he listened to it often, and it helped him deal with a lot of his emotions and fears. Springsteen got his start playing in beach bars in Asbury Park NJ, which is why my husband's family and I gathered there this past weekend to say one last goodbye.

We placed some of Steve's ashes in a heart drawn in the sand, scattered flowers over his name, and silently waited for the waves to gently wash him out to sea. It was beautiful, peaceful - and I could think of no better way to honor this man who was my husband, my best friend, my life than to give this final tribute to him and the music that touched his soul, surrounded by those he loved.
