this is from Todd Rundgren's 2005 album Liars (great album, BTW). The album speaks about seeking truths to various lies we are brought up to believe or tell ourselves; i think this one is addressing the belief that once we are dead, we're dead, or that at best, eternity and heaven are impersonal. At least that's my take on his lyrics. It's beautiful and powerful, however you hear it. Hope you enjoy it.

Outstanding, another Todd Rundgren freak! I gotta say you got me with that one! I've been a fan of Todd Rundgren for over 40 years (saw him at the old Inglewood Forum in L.A. in '76), but that's the first time I have even heard of "Afterlife"...great song, bitchin' video...but, I always thought this was Todd's "grief song"...

"toddisgodd"... I never got to see him in our youth but always loved his music (that's a fantastic video link of one of my favorite songs of his, BTW! I didn't know it was considered a "grief song', I somehow see the glass half full in that one - truly beautiful, simple and elegant...perfect, thank you). First time hearing of him, but love this song. I'm glad it isn't one of the screaming ones that are designed to blow out my ears.
The spirit has got to retain the personality of that person when he/she lived, and loving the same people. Otherwise if they all turn into some kind of robo-lovie-dovies, what's the point of having a spirit in the first place?

snowalone, back in the day I didn't know "A Dream Goes On Forever" was a grief song either...not until May 26, 2013. when I lost my "second mother" Aunt Vern...and it served double-duty for Marylou after "12"..."I guess I believe that I'll see you one day...for without it there is no dream..."

that makes perfect sense...I think I thought (perhaps overthought) that it might be about God or the otherwise sacred unattainable (love and/or spirit).
