Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
It's all so darned unfair. Keep the wonderful memories that the two of you shared very close inside your mind. When you feel like falling apart, you will have these memories to comfort you.
We're all here for each other and the love and warmth that you will receive from people who has shared this journey will keep you well.
Warmly,
Roz
So I am sort of new to this WW group too, and I can say truthfully - I know what you are feeling, I really do. All of the stuff you hear is sadly true. Take one hour/one day at a time. Time does help although we hate this time when our legs are shaky and we can't concentrate, can't read, can't watch TV, can't do anything but wonder about this awful, awful thing that came into our lives.
In the beginning I could read books about being widowed. Somehow it helped to read others' stories and how they carried on. It might help you...or not. I talk, talk, talk on the phone to friends who are kind enough to listen and care enough to call. I know I'm a pain sometimes, but the true friends will listen.
And reading this site on DS is a great help. You can come here any time of the day or night and read old and new posts. Have you spoken to a grief counselor? Sometimes hospice will send someone to speak to you, even though your Skip was never on hospice; my husband wasn't either, but a great lady spoke to me twice. There are also grief support groups where you can share and learn. Try to get out of the house and not isolate yourself. I struggle with this all the time.
Hang in there, that's what I can tell you. Sending hugs...

Somehow all of us here must go on and try too live because I'm sure that's what our loved one's would want us to do. I get it that you hate life right now, I have said that to myself everyday since this happened to her.
I hope you find peace and happiness down the road. Take care of yourself.

I am just approaching the 8 month anniversary of the loss
of my wife. We were together for 30+ years. She passed
saddening of a heart attack at the age of 53 while I was
at work. I know the expected pain you are suffering.
The first month was shock and then reality hit and they
were meshed together for several months. Reality still
hits hard at times but now it is just some sort of numbness
as I rise each day.
I have learned the only way I can make it through the day
is to take it one minute at a time and then one hour at a
time. At night, I light candles sitting near some enlarged
photos of her. I spend some time talking to her but I also
spend some time writing in journals as I think about
experiences we had together. Doing that has allowed me
to recall many things we did together ( big things and
small things ) and some had been forgotten. As I write, I
found it lose track of time and it is soon bedtime and I
get another day behind me. The pages of the journals
are stained with a lot of tears but that's OK. The journals
are only for me anyway.
There are a lot of people in DSWW that are suffering as
well and many will be here to help you.
You are in my thoughts, Carol-Ann.
