OK, please tell me I`m not the only one who hates the month of December. My family is rather dysfunctional, so Christmas stopped being fun for me as a teenager. Now, as I`m working my third Christmas in retail, I`m finding I really dislike the day. It`s so hard to pretend to be sympathetic to people who are complaining their gift for their spouse or other loved ones is not `perfect.` I just want to take them by the shirt collar and scream in their faces: AT LEAST YOU HAVE A SPOUSE YOU CAN PUT THE EFFORT INTO CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR! BE GRATEFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE! NOT EVERYONE IS THAT LUCKY! DON`T TAKE THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE FOR GRANTED BECAUSE THEY WON`T ALWAYS BE THERE!
I think Joni Mitchell said it best. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got til it's gone.

I'm not looking forward to Christmas, either. I can't stand all the Christmas commercials on TV...every time they come on I give television finger..my husband never liked the materialism of it...in recent years, neither did I. And I read an article the other day about a school that had their nativity scene 'banned'...it's sickening...and when we have to deal with it without the one we love just makes it that much more unbearable. Honestly if it weren't for my son, I wouldn't bother with it at all this year...it would be just another day. As for those with the trivial issues of the 'perfect gift', they will someday be in our shoes looking at someone stressing over the same thing in the same way that we re now...not that I would wish that on anyone,...but their turn will come just the same.

I can't stand it and hope I get through the month. C'mon 2016!

I too work retail., and you are absolutely right! I find I have no patience for any customer as they complain. Also, as more couples shop together I find I cry a lot more when I come home to our empty home. I didn't realize how hard this was going to be. Sending love your way

Married couples don't even realize they are on the Titanic ship, ready to hit the iceberg and only one will be left on the boat. I went to Michael's today, looking at all the overpriced Christmas junk, thinking I would maybe buy a little tree or some candles for John's memory for Christmas, but why, he's not here to see them, then I just walked out of the store. I am going to get a Christmas card for my husband, John, and sign it with love. Then when our 29th wedding anniversary comes on January 3, 2016, I am going to get him an anniversary card, and sign it with love. And his 70th birthday would have been February 13, 2016, and I am going to get him a birthday card, and add these special cards to the rest of our cards we got each other over all those years together in his "Johnny box." That's all I have.

I don't know that Christmas will really be that hard to get through! My husband wasn't really a holiday person as he usually had to work unless it was his scheduled day off. I find that just every damn day can be so hard to get through. I am lucky to have grand children as seeing their beautiful faces light up at the mention of Santa and all the merriment is so precious. Hugs and Love to all of us that are struggling, Michele
