Hi everyone! I am new to this group an really hope this will help me deal with my grief. My husband of almost 18 years died on April 20, 2015 from a health issue. It was very sudden and unexpected. At the time, I put on abrave front and tried to go about life as normal. I thought I was doing fine but now I realize I was just suppressing the pain. I recently woke up from this foggy brain I've been living with and the grief has hit me full force. My daughter is 15 and I have basically been living life for her and always making sure she is okay. I really haven't done anything to make sure I am okay. I have distanced myself from family and friends in the last 3 months. It is a lonely sad existence . Wow, reading this back I sound so awful and pathetic. I guess what I'm trying to ask is did anyone else have a similar experience? The pain is so unbearable now and I miss him so much. I wish I had dealt with my feelings as they came instead of blocking it out. Maybe they wouldn't seem 10 X as bad now.

You have come to a good place here...everyone understands what it is to lose the love of your life, and there are a lot of caring people here who have been through it and have a lot of good advice to offer...
In a week it will be just three months, and it's been a very tough road, I've made it so far through God's grace, the love of my family and groups like this because they know how you feel here. There was a post that described it beautifully it talked it being a wave and it comes at you in ebbs and flows with the intensity of each varying. This weekend was really hard, but each day begins anew.
I think the shock has it's own power over us at first. So even though we do grieve at first, shock is buffering us from the depth of sorrow which hits in later months.
Don't scold yourself. we don't have a choice over all the Timing.
Grief has a life of it's own.
I am being overpowered by grief now- less than 7 months.
Hugs to you.
