As a parent I think one of our worst fears is if something happened to us that they would be taken care of. All I can say is you have to trust that they are in Gods hands and so are you. From day to day or moment to moment life is not a guarantee. All we can do is trust that all will be well and say a prayer.

I have that same fear, more powerful now that Stevan is gone. I always thought about death but it is a bigger fear now. But we don't have a say in the matter, only God does. I think now it will always be a thought and hope that family will be there if anything happens.
And my kids will be able to handle it I pray.

What can happen to you our your kids is pretty much out of your control. You can only do the best at trying to be careful, and of course you should, but you can't control the weather, or the actions of other people.

I do understand how you feel, but you must also believe that God will provide for your family no matter what happens. I say you must, meaning that if you believe in God, he will assist your family no matter what happens.

I'll offer you this example from my situation, and it was uncomfortable at the time, it made me realize that I just had to trust in God.

Our 17 year old daughter died in May 1996 in an auto accident due to a horrible rainstorm where she lost control of the car, crossed the median and got hit by anothe car. Her older sister, Candice, was 19 at the time. Three months later Candice wanted to go on a trip of church youth that were traveling to Eritrea, which had just broke from Ethiopia in Africa, on a trip to sing and visit churches there. We made sure she had all her shots and that the group was well sponsored, lad all that. But we had no control, and could not even see her for weeks. She had to fly over the ocean, and travel by bus over a lot of roads in Africa without the US Hospital system, etc.

The only thing we could do is trust that she would be protected and say prayers. It turned out ok, as all these years later those are her kids in my profile picture :)

We did, and still do, have the kids check in with us whenever they travel so we know they are safe ( that will never change ) but eventually you will be more comfortable - trust me.

So, go ahead with your visit, and things will be ok no matter what happens :)

I agree with everyone else. The only thing I would like to add is make sure that you have a will that state everything that you want to happen with your children, financial, who will be taking care of them and so forth. We always worry about what will happen with our children. My children are 36 & 33. I still worry about them now and if I should die.
Go on your outing. Parents need the separation from their children every once and a while.

My children were 20 and 22 when my husband passed and my immediate reaction was to keep them near me at all time . But in my heart I knew that as a mom even though I would like to, I can`t control every aspect of life. A few months later when my son did not want to do a job interview that would take a 3 days car ride away because he was worried about me and his sister , I did the hardest thing I could and I pushed him to do the interview. He got the job and moved on Mother`s day. I told him that in life he had his on journey to follow . So while your kids are little munchkins still and as mom you want to protect them I believe that their journeys are already mapped out and you can`t change that . Hopefully instead of stressing all the time , you can turn things to where you enjoy every minute of being their mom and make the most of it.
People don`t often realize that children sense and pick up on their parents fear and stress no matter how young they are so I hope you can find the strength to let go of what in the end you cannot change and change the things that you can XOXOXO

You gave me another perspective of being a mother of young children. My children are full grown, so I don't worry about them losing me. But IF I were in your shoes, I might feel the same way as you do. I can tell you love your 2 yr old.

Your fears are not silly. This is the real fear of a caring parent. Don't beat yourself up about it.

I don't have children, but I have a dog and bird. Many times I've been afraid of what happens to them if something happens to me.

I worry about who will take care of my adopted dog, that I got 2 weeks after loosing my husband. Also I wonder if anyone will take my family treasures and not sell them. I have antiques. A 1850 dinngroom suite, 1950 original Hollywood bedroom suite that was his parents. a 1900libray table my grandparents got as a wedding gift in 1917, my husbands great grandfathers dinner bell. My paul bunyan cannonball poster bed. I wonder if they will just put in a yard sale somewhere, and get nothing out of it.

I understand your concern. My son would go to group care if something happens to me. All you can do is plan for their care in the event the worst happens, realizing that you can only control the plan, not how well someone carries it out. I have a call service named Sentry Telecare that I check in with before 7 am. If I do not call, they call me. If I don't answer, then family and friends receive calls and emails that something is wrong. Since Matt cannot care for himself, this was the only way I could be certain if I died in my sleep like Sharry, that someone would get to Matt before he would suffer, until someone would finally notice something was wrong. In your case, checking in with your Dad or a friend at a pre-determined time would be just as effective, especially since you are young and far less likely to pass unexpectedly. A good trust fund can certainly ease your mind as well. Having your Dad there for you should be a great comfort. Once you feel you have done all you can, though you will always have concerns, you will feel more confident. The things beyond your control, as Bob said so well, you have to put in God's hands, and live your life fearlessly. Hope your visit to your husband's resting place, comforts you this weekend. Thank you everyone for all of your comments. it really does help a lot to hear yalls thoughts and opinions. reading them helped me relax a little bit. I have enough to worry about with two kids and going back to college in the fall that I need to try and worry about things I can control. easier said than done though. thank you and I hope yall have a nice weekend.

I certainly understand your fears. I had the same feelings when my children were young. Thankfully their dad watched them grow to be adults. The best advice I got was from my dad. He said our children belonged to God, and we were trusted to raise them for the first God choose to allow us to make them independent children of His. This belief allowed me to have peace and the stamina to let them grow. Sharon
