I just passed the year mark...don't know how, but I did. I feel, though, like the pain of reality is worse now. When I cry, it feels like it's coming from a much deeper pain in my heart. I miss Joseph more each day that passes. I try to tell myself, I'm a year closer to being with him again.

I want to share this quote to all of us trying to cope with our loss.

What you describe is common among most of us grieving the loss of our partner in life. You are well aware this reality is not a bad dream, but a change in your life that you must find a way to deal with. Finding strength to survive is the key and it's exhausting. We don't know what the future holds and no identity of who we are or what we want. You will discover these things in time through tears and even some laughter. Until then visit and talk about it with us here. Sharon

Thanks so much for the quote. Although I've read a lot of Charles Dickens, "Dombey and Son" has never been a favorite. Maybe I need to go back and read it again!

Gladys you are definitely not alone in this journey. After I passed the one year mark a different kind of pain took hold as we process our new reality. I was recently told by someone we dont heal but get stronger over time. I thought that was a better description of our journey. Wishing you peace. Gerald

I just past a year 2 weeks ago and also found it very difficult. I think the reality of it hits you again. Now 2 weeks past I'm doing "OK" again.

I just passed the one year mark. The anniversary day was horrendous for me. I cried and lamented and relived every moment of my husband's passing. I wrote about how I was feeling on this site, and all the kind responses gave me the only solace I experienced that day.

I totally empathize, Gladys. It does seem to get harder and harder. And in keeping with the homage to Dickens, it's definitely not the best of times and the worst of times -- just the worst!
