Other than dreams, I have had some very obvious signs from him. I've been studying the paranormal, and how to raise my vibration so that I might be able to sense him better...but I don't know if that actually works...maybe I'm just desperate, or going crazy...I don't know.
Wendi, our dog will sometimes look up at the ceiling above me and start barking for no reason. I do not think you are crazy. I think Ben was with me on those occasions.....it comforted me.
I often experienced early dreams of Jim that were not pleasant. With that said, I can tell you that the theme of my emotions played out in them . . anger, betrayal, etc. I simply learned that it wasn't indicative of our relationship, but more about my emotions and feelings at the time.
My three cents, for what it's worth. Round of hugs to all. xo, D
Thank you that makes alot of scents - I would agree - as I look back the dreams would mimick the feelings I was having or am having at the time.
I will say that it is difficult when they happen, and they are not pleasant, seem to leave me feeling worse, that I would dream such things.
Again thank you - your three cents was well worth reading.
In your dreams you are working things out. I think the negative tone of your dreams have much to do with your grief & loss - and dreams are the only way he can work these things out with you.
Following her death, I had a series of dreams in which we were just being like we always were, little mundane conversations, nothing out of the ordinary. When I woke up, I looked around for her, she was just over there - but she wasn't, I remembered.
I had one dream in which we went to a Rolling Stones concert. That was fun. I have never seen the Stones, but I watched a video of their famous free Hyde Park concert, which probably prompted the dream. We loved music together, and saw shows by Lou Reed, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis.
Just a couple of weeks after her death, I heard a poem read by Marilyn Lightstone on her show Nocturne on Classical 96.3, a radio station in Toronto. I listen to that station while sleeping, on weeknights; on weekends I listen to jazz on WBGO. That's just my pattern. Lightstone is an intellectual and a famous actress - her shows 11pm-1am are wonderful, funny, touching, comforting - with great music!
This poem sent chills trough me:
Haunting My Husband by Toni Clark
Nothing much has changed.
He looks right through me,
doesn't hear a word
I say, forgets all
my instructions: where
we keep the strainer,
how to fold the sheets.
I trail him room to room,
like our old hound dog,
waiting for welcome -
come here, old girl -
careful to walk
around furniture
I now could well pass
through, wondering
what trick to try next.
He may lift his head,
as though sensing
a barometric shift,
a thickening of air,
but it's always nothing.
He shrugs, carries
his empty cup to the sink.
I still wrap myself
around him, rubbing
my cheek against his
stubbly morning face,
and can almost feel
the scrape of whiskers.
And sometimes at night,
dazed by dream, he still
reaches out to me,
before I resolve
into my true form:
a lingering memory.
I'd rattle dishes,
flick lights on and off,
whoosh past his ear
if I thought there were
a ghost of a chance
he'd notice.

While I was looking for that poem, I found another interesting one by John Milton:
On His Deceased Wife
METHOUGHT I saw my late espoused Saint
Brought to me like Alcestis from the grave,
Whom Joves great Son to her glad Husband gave,
Rescu'd from death by force though pale and faint.
Mine as whom washt from spot of child-bed taint,
Purification in the old Law did save,
And such, as yet once more I trust to have
Full sight of her in Heaven without restraint,
Came vested all in white, pure as her mind:
Her face was vail'd, yet to my fancied sight,
Love, sweetness, goodness, in her person shin'd
So clear, as in no face with more delight.
But O as to embrace me she enclin'd
I wak'd, she fled, and day brought back my night.
