In my case my wife fought a difficult 10 year fight with stage 4 colon cancer. So every year that she lived we were cheating death. After five operations ( including a brain tumor ) and 180 chemotherapy treatments over 10 years we finally ran out of treatment options in February this year. She got worse and then we did hospice in our home for one month and then she died ( hospice people were wonderful, btw ).
In my religion, The Baha'I Faith, we do not embalm the body, we wash it and wrap with cloth before burial. My wife wanted me and our three kids ( 30' 33, 36 ) to do that for her. I was told that is was a very powerful experience. I did not like washing her body because it was cold, but there was no doubt that her spirit had left for the next life to be with God. So I guess the process had the desired effect on me, thought not what I expected.
Anyway only weeks after the funeral, I decided that I wanted to get married again sometime. We had a happy marriage, and I really enjoyed all the closeness and time spent together as a family.
So that is where I am today. I don't have any feelings like I am being disrespectful of my wife or our marriage. I'm a good person, and I was a good husband. If I find the right person, I will be again.
The only time my wife and I ever talked about what we would do if the other died, she told me she would want me to get married again ( she said she would not get remarried because training another husband would be too much work, lol ).
So I think it's perfectly ok to get remarried and help make someone else's life good as well. Now, finding that person is the hard part.
