Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
The invites came from some (not all) and I did not feel like socializing early on. If they wanted to come to the house, it was a "maybe" . . as for going out, I chose not to. I can only fake so much and I needed my alone time, without guilt. I set my personal boundaries and stuck to them. Glad I did. For the in between moments in need of companionship, I came to DS or called a trusted friend. Heck, I can sit here in my PJ's unshowered, without pressure to "present" and no one on the other end of the phone or net can see me. LOL
The invites have not stopped for me at one year. I still decline most. I visit with a close neighbor when I feel up to it . . a 5 minute walk that does me good. Otherwise, once again, no guilt in saying "no thanks". (Without expounding or making excuses)
True friends will not push you in your need for private time and your invites will still be forthcoming in future from those that love, care and respect you. The focus right now needs to be on YOU and what's best for you, not about making other people feel better or going along with the flow of unsolicited well-meaning advice. Just my take on things.
Remember, guilt serves no purpose. To thine own self be true!!
Hugs, Dayna
