I attended all 13 sessions of GriefShare. We had people who had lost all different loved ones: spouses,mothers, fathers, children, one child was murdered, grandparents, fiances, etc. Although I benefitted from the sessions and would do it again, I would really like to be in a group just for widows and widowers. So many issues are different with other relationships. Near the end of the 13 sessions, one lady who had lost a grown daughter said to me she was glad to be in the group with me and the other widows/ers because she learned so much about what it was like to lose a spouse. She said she had no idea. I checked around our area here and I did not find a group just for loss of spouses, not even Hospice.

I attended one meeting through the local funeral home. It was a nightmare. It was listed a a Young Widows group in the flyer I got in the mail. Cool...I will check this out. The ladies were all 60 and over and the woman conduction the group had never been a widow or had anyone in her immediate family die. It was a nightmare. I would never go back.

There are support groups that are just for widowed people and then there are groups that can be from a loss of any loved one. Where I come from, grief support groups a few and far between. I've been to both types. Check with the hospitals and hospice groups. They most likely can guide you.

I went to a Griefshare first - but only for a few times. I was the only one with a spouse who had died and not many came to the group. I got tired of other women complaining about their husbands.

Now I'm attending a "young widows/ers" group for people 55 and under. It was through a hospice group. The first time I tried to be in the group I couldn't get in - there were too many. I like going to this one.

There are no grief groups in the town where I live, and I have thought of forming one, but since I am so new in the journey, I wouldn't know where to start.

There weren't any close enough to get to, and my congregation didn't have one either. I got grief counseling - one-on-one - instead. I got that for free through an Employee Assistance Program ("EAP") at work, and one of my sons did, too. My younger son was still in high school when Cliff died, so he got counseling through the school psychologist and his guidance counselor - also free.

When I searched online for a group I could get to, Google found me Daily Strength instead, and the rest, as they say, is history......

I looked for grief groups in my area, but the few I did find only met while I was at work. That is when I went online and found DS. I would probably still attend a group if I could find one to fit my schedule. Unfortunately there are not many in my area. Susan
