Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
My son is home from his deployment to Afghanistan. He is safe and sound and it felt sooo good to hug him. It really was joyous when all those marines got off the bus.
There were crowds of friends and family there to welcome them home. Cold, wet and drizzling I noticed the different groups. Despite the weather there were the cadre of young wives in cocktail dresses and heels standing in the middle of a soccer field. About a row back were the second group of young wives, sensibly dressed and about 8 months pregnant! There were groups with infants getting ready to meet their dads for the first time. There were the veteran wives that had obviously been through this before who would let the first times go ahead. And then there were the throngs of friends and family who just interspersed. The joy was so prevalent in the atmosphere you could feel its presence.
I take my joy where I find it these days.

I rejoice with you in the safe arrival home of your son. The scene you described tugged at my heart for what these men and their families have endured over the months and years. May God bless each and every one of them for their selfless sacrifice for the care and safety of others. Blessings to you, and hold tight to that love you share with your son; it is a precious gift. Your Joy must be immense, my friend, and you must be ever so proud of your son. I am forever humbled by the sacrifice, courage, and heroism displayed by the members of our military in the defense of our Liberty. As you are acutely aware, Pete, these are perilous times, and your son served in a very dangerous place. Please express my gratitude to him, and thank you, Pete, for being the father of an American hero........Joe....:-)
