Another day, but no dollar. I'm in sales, and the recession has finally hit big time. Days of working and nothing earned. It's a first for me. In the past, if this had happened, I'd have at least been able to rely on DH. But now, there's just me and the panic is palpable.
Like many college graduates, I never thought I'd fear not being able to find another job. For so many years it was easy to find something. But now you see the people out there, fear in their eyes. Some with children. People spending their retirement money. It's just awful.
I used to work in IT. Used to be plenty of jobs back then. I had jobs during recessions. Sometimes I didn't even know there was a recession. But now, it's everywhere. Sad thing is, I know these jobs aren't coming back. Does'nt matter who we put in office. The jobs were outsourced to other countries, or they were eliminated due to better technology. These jobs are just as gone as the elevator ladies and the switchboard operator job, the typist, the bookeeper. They're as gone as the pony express jobs. I watch my friends terror as they see the technology coming in that will replace them. No more computer operator, no more computer programmer. It's terrible.
It seems that the older you are, the better off you are. At least you'll have Social Security, maybe even a pension check. But for 50 somethings and younger, it's scary. Insurance would run me about 600 a month. Where would you get that sort of money if you're not working?

Ok, after my complaining, I am thankful for what I do have. I am fortunate to own my home and have what I do. I have a wonderful son, DIL and grandchildren who are the lights of my life.

You need to polish up you resume and post it to Monster.com and CareerBuilder. There are many companies that are eager for the experienced and mature employee. The big hurdle is regaining your self confidence and do not give up.
Please keep the Faith. You will do it.

I still have my pizza business, but the economy has taken a large toll there too. I work for my wages, get nothing more from the business right now, and worry every week if there will even be enough to pay the business expenses much less me.
My plan is to return to school in January to finish my Bachelor's, but as you said, even a college degree doesn't mean a good job. It is very scary times indeed.
