My daughter has a friend (17 years old) who committed suicide yesterday - hung himself at home. His mother found him. To make things even worse - my dtr said last time she was at the house the mother had been crying. Apparently his other brother (only other child) got involved with drugs several months ago, left for another state and told his parents he wanted nothing to do with them again. The mother was devastated after losing her oldest son - and now the youngest is gone. I don't even know them - but I can't imagine how heartbreaking this would be - to have both your children gone and by choice. I couldn't sleep last night - it is too bad people are in such a state of mind that they don't realize how this destroys the lives of so many.

What a terrible tragedy. It seems very commonplace today. I think all the negative "forces" on tv, the music teenagers love, cruelty to each other that some experience -- are all taking a large toll on our youth. Many parents give their children "everything" $ can buy, but do not teach them respect for others, a sense of right & wrong, and being responsible individuals. I know this is hard for your daughter and all his friends -- and his parents may have done all the right things. The school will probably have counselors visit the school so his friends can talk to them. I'm sorry your daughter had to lose a friend at this early age.

What a terrible thing to happen to that dear mother and her extended family. I can't begin to know the heartache she must be feeling. I truly hope she can find her other son so he will know of his brother's death.

I'm sorry that the son could find no comfort in his family or friendships to keep his desperation at bay. What a terribly sad loss. I pray that someone will be able to help this mother deal with her loss. She and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm sure this is difficult for your daughter to process. Maybe it will shed some light on the importance of life, family, and love. I remember that you had some complex situations with your son and daughter over the last year or so. You never know what might be in their hearts as they have to see the consequences of such a devastating decision. TJ

Now is the time to pull your own children close and talk, talk, talk to them. Make sure they understand that there is nothing in this life that they cannot come to you with. Unfortunately when a peer or teen in a group commits suicide all too often another friend will follow suit. Prayers go out for the family of the young boy and all of his young classmates and friend.

A death by any means is a sad affair buts its extremly tough in a situation like suicide or murder. The tragedy of loss of communication that leads to this is so sad. I will pray for forgiveness for his poor choice and for the family.
