Looks like good 'ol Max (schnoodle) is doing well afterall. Don't know if ya'll remember but I posted that I took Max to the vet soon after my husband died and she said she thought he had Cushings disease - it would cost $980 for the test and online it said average life expectancy after diagnosis was 2 yrs - and he was only 7. I was soo upset. Then she said the shots would cost $125 a month and almost all dogs with Cushings are diabetic and I would need additional tests (more than the $980) to test for diabetes.

Couldn't afford the test and yesterday took Max for shots with Luv My Pet (they go into stores). The vet said the test is only $120 for Cushings and she would never suspect Cushings or test for it just because the dog's hair was thin in a couple of areas. She didn't notice a pot belly like the other vet (neither did we) and said almost all dogs with Cushings drink great amounts of water and he's only drinking one bowl a day. Also said most dogs with Cushings are not diabetic and could not understand how it could cost so much for the tests. He looked healthy to her.

I had told the first vet that my husband had just died and I had been let go from my job (I'm a teacher so I was still working at that time) - when we were discussing a previous money amount and it was after she knew this that she brought up the Cushings and diabetes and money.

I feel like she was trying to take advantage of me for the money. The first roof repairman did the same thing - said it would cost $9,000 to repair my soffitts and put in insulation after raccoon damage. My insurance agent nearly flipped out when I told him and recommended someone else. I know the economy is bad but I don't understand how people can attempt to take advantage of someone in this position. Just a warning to everyone else - watch out.
