I have found this place a great community of very caring people where you can share you worries, experiences, learning and ignorance at the terrible pain we each share through the loss of the closest and dearest to each of us. Sorry you too are suffering. I hope we can help a bit. John

Thank you for your replies. As I move forward, each day is better than the one before. This is a place in life where I'm sure not one of us could have imagined being; yet, here we are. Shortly after my husband passed away, a friend who had lost her husband a week before mine called me and asked if I would like to have dinner (I might mention that we didn't know one another at that time--just had mutual friends). That was the beginning of a wonderful friendship and the start of the healing process. Tears: of course. Smiles: accumulating. Laughter: thank goodness. Blessings: abundant. Learning curve: oh yeah!

I am fairly new myself. I had been searching for SOMETHING that
could be a help for those like you & me that have lost. I lost
my wife February this year. Sorry for your loss. Anyhow, I googled
widows & widowers and discovered this. Can't tell you the kind
support I have received to this point. It may not be face to face,
but even notes of encouragement are very helpful.
I will even send you a HUG to show we are all together.

Dennis, thank you for the warm welcome. I find myself looking forward to checking the DS site each day. I see a very common thread among the friends: each loved our spouse and lived a fulfilled life with someone we trusted, cherished, and shared our innermost self. When I hear others whine about all the things their spouse does that--apparently, according to them-- make their life miserable, I sometimes am surprised at my low tolerance level. When I hear couples shouting, cursing, or disrespecting their spouse, it's hard not to go right up to them and get in their faces, telling them they should count their blessings to have the love of one another. It can be taken away so quickly. I guess I'm going to have to work on that tolerance thing. It's a blessing to hear all the positive comments from those who have shared in an unspeakable pain. Hope springs eternal, thankfully!!

Hi Pathof Life: Do not work on your tolerance level. I went throught the same thing and I was at the local restaurant and some guy was ranting about changing spouses. All I said to him was be damn thankful you have a spouse. I want to welcome you to this group that no one wishes they belong to.

Thanks, it's good to know that I'm pretty normal in this regard. It's hard to keep my cool sometimes, though. I've become much bolder when it comes to things like this. I don't want to waste time being trite. Life is too short. Gratefulness is in short supply in this world. Lord, please keep me from taking things for granted.
