There was no part of this journey that was fun...........not diagnosis, not chemo, not hospice, not Steve's death. But in some ways, the very early days were the worst. That was when we were first coming to terms with the fact at he had a terminal illness. I cried more than once and he would try to comfort me by saying "It's OK."
I remember thinking how crazy that sounded.........how could it possibly be OK???
But now, almost two years from that awful day when we learned his cancer was incurable, I realize he was right. He is with God now and I am still here. It IS OK. I miss him horribly but he is no longer in pain and it is OK.

Sylvia you are right it is ok but for me as well as many others we need to travel through a intense process of grief to realize that. One of my regrets that I have come to terms with is I could not accept the terminal diagnosis. I was so caught up in fighting the cancer and supporting my wife when she actually passed away I fell off a cliff emotionally. I recently saw a beautiful movie called 'The Shack". There were many powerful scenes in this movie but there was one in which the grieving man is given a glimpse of his daughter in heaven. That scene spoke to me because so often I wanted that glimpse of my wife in heaven. I know with all my heart she is there and I challenge myself now by saying would I want to deny her heaven. Of course not even though I miss her everyday. Sylvia they are more than ok they are great because they are with God and it is a place we hope to be someday but clearly we have work to do because we are still here. For those in the early stages of the grief process I promise you that you will be ok also but the grief road is the most difficult in life to travel which is why you need to cling to your faith.

I did some of my grieving before my husband died...he had heart trouble and was on dialysis...I haven't cried like I thought I would, I know where he is and that he's not hurting anymore

Yes, it's ok if you know your spouse is comforted with Christ--I don't. But I only hope...
