I'm reading that Vitamin D Deficiency caused pain doesn't respond to traditional pharmaceutical or manual therapies and that many sufferers of this silent undiagnosed pandemic get misdiagnosed with depression, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, anxiety, etc. Makes me want to go on Oprah and shout, "Everybody get tested!" It's taking quite aggressive measures to address the severity of my deficiency. I will not give up until I am whole.
Hello, i have severe vitamin D deficiency and take Adcal twice a day for the last six months which dont seem to be helping and now i have been prescribed injections too today by my general doctor.I suffer from alot of pain in my knees and in my calves also in my hands all which is very extreme. I have also got fibromyalgia.
Are you getting Vitamin D injections? I have read that when, as in my case, obesity or a metabolic disorder is present, injections of Vitamin D can bypass malabsorption issues. I'm willing to get them if what I'm doing now doesn't bring my blood levels of D up within 90 days. I'm currently taking the once/week megadose.
Non-obese light skinned patients are usually told to get 10-15 minutes of direct sunshine on skin without sunblock 2-3 times/week. I'm getting 10 minutes of sun on exposed arms, face and legs 6-7 days/week. I'm continuing my original Vitamin D nutrition habits of eating salmon, sardines, eggs and drinking 3-6 servings of Vitamin D enriched milk or Kefir daily. My understanding is that what form of Vitamin D you take may affect your outcome. Some of us can absorb sun through our skin and make Vitamin D more efficiently than others. Some of us have more efficient absorption of our nutritionally available Vitamin D. Obese patients need twice as often exposures and may need close monitoring to get their blood levels back into balance. Current USDA recommendations do not reflect our actual scientific biological needs. Melanin in our skin affects absorption. Darker skinned individuals have the greatest challenge. Even so, some of the lightest skin peoples live covered in layers/sunblock and still don't get enough even in the Middle East and in equatorial countries. My favorite video on the subject is the Michael Holick, PhD, MD address to the 34th European Symposium on Calcified Tissues, May 5-9, 2007:
The seven page scholarly article below is a bit dry but addresses some of the challenges to correcting Vitamin D deficiency and that our doctors may not even be up to date on the latest research.
The October 2007 American Journal of Nurse Practitioners is a very thorough and helpful read as well. It's a pdf and you'll need a program to read pdfs to view it:
I was researching martial arts studios for a friend's son and came across a recommendation for a Vitamin D supplement that the head teacher prefers for optimal bone and muscle health. When we get my levels balanced, I'm going to buy it and try it out. It would seem that it is of higher quality and lower cost than many others I've investigated.
i got the prescription today for my first injection however the pharmacist told me that the company who produces them is having production problems so i may have to wait a week or two. I am on prescribed Adcal twice a day which has high levels of Vitamin D (400iu) each tablet and normal multivits
I go outside when i am able to but i dont really know how many times a week maybe twice i am not really sure how long my sensativity to light doesnt really help much.
Unfortunately i am allergic to milk products so i would not be able to drink Vitamin D enriched milk, but i eat alot of fish nothing really so far seems to be helping, regular blood tests show my levels to not be changing much.
Thanks for the links will have a look through them, will keep you updated
