I have created this account in my "Fiancé's" name in hopes that he will eventually log on himself. I'm so desperate to help him with his addiction to gaming and this is the last thing I can think of doing. We were supposed to get married in November and it has been called off due to fights over his Xbox. I came into this relationship with a child and he and I recently had a baby together. He's choosing this gaming device over his own family. I've told him he was at risk of losing us and he says the only problem we have is the fact that I have a problem with his gaming. He is truly addicted. He lies and leaves family functions or misses them all together so he can game. All of his free time from work is spent gaming. He's missed work before because he was up all night gaming. He doesn't stop when our daughter cries. He has no friends because he blows off all of his plans to stay home and game. I know he can't get help until he recognizes a problem, which is where I'm having trouble. He doesn't see this as a problem. He's been gaming since he was 12 and he's 29 now. He's lost countless relationships, including a wife, due to neglecting them for gaming. I've given him an ultimatum that either the Xbox goes or we do and as I sit here I'm still looking at that stupid box. What do I do!?!? I should also add that we've been in counseling for this for weeks now. He's even convinced himself that's not why we're in counseling.
Reading your post is so relatable on so many levels. Literally before this morning I had no idea there were even support groups for other spouses/significant others of gaming addicts. I have been with my boyfriend for 8 yrs now and I have never felt more distant to him than I do at this point in our relationship because of his extreme need for gaming. Your husband and my boyfriend would probably make GREAT online friends. I feel so much for you, and you have little ones to boot!! I can say confidently that I would be terrified at this point to get pregnant because I can't picture him giving up gaming anytime soon to raise a child. I am not sure how to help you, but I wanted you to know you aren't crazy or alone and this is NOT your fault. We are not to blame for their gaming issues.. we are just the victims of them.
